AltStore, installed from your iPhone.

AltLoad does AltServer's job on the phone itself. It pairs your iPhone with itself, signs AltStore with your own Apple ID, and installs it. No computer involved.

How it works

Four steps, all on the device

AltLoad does what a computer running AltServer normally does, but from inside your iPhone.

1

Pair

Your iPhone pairs with AltLoad from Developer Mode settings, the same way it pairs with a Mac.

2

Connect

LocalDevVPN loops one address back into the phone, so AltLoad can open a secure tunnel to it.

3

Sign

You sign in with your Apple ID. AltLoad gets a free development certificate and signs AltStore.

4

Install

The signed app is sent to iOS through the tunnel and installed. AltStore appears on your Home Screen.

Features

Made for a phone-only setup

Everything AltServer handles on a computer, redesigned for a single device.

No computer, ever again

Once AltLoad is on your iPhone, installing and refreshing AltStore happens entirely on the device.

0 computers needed

Refresh reminders

Free Apple IDs sign apps for 7 days. AltLoad reminds you the day before, and refreshing takes one tap.

Your own Apple ID

Apps are signed with your own free development certificate. AltLoad never uses anyone else's certificates.

Private by design

Your password goes only to Apple. There's no analytics and no tracking.

Always the latest AltStore

AltLoad reads the official AltStore source, so it installs the newest release every time. You can also install from an IPA file.

Open source

The source is on GitHub, built on idevice and isideload. Every build is made publicly by GitHub Actions.

What you'll need

You set these up once.

  • 1
iOS 27 or later, with Developer Mode on in Settings › Privacy & Security.
  • 2
An Apple ID. A free one works. A secondary one is a good idea.
  • 3
LocalDevVPN, free on the App Store. Open it once after installing.
  • 4
Wi-Fi, just for the one-time pairing step.
FAQ

Questions

Do I need a computer at all?
Only to get AltLoad onto your phone the first time, and even that can be done with an on-device sideloading tool you already have. After that, installing and refreshing AltStore happens entirely on the iPhone.
Why iOS 27?
AltLoad relies on the on-device wireless pairing option in Developer Mode, which was added in iOS 27.
Is my Apple ID safe?
Your password goes only to Apple. If you choose to remember it, it's stored in your iPhone's Keychain and never synced. Apple also requires device-identity headers ("anisette") to sign in. These come from a public anisette server, which never sees your password, and you can pick another server in Settings. See the security policy.
Why refresh in AltLoad instead of AltStore?
AltStore's built-in refresh looks for AltServer running on a computer. Without one, AltLoad does the refreshing, and your AltStore data and apps are kept.
What is LocalDevVPN for?
An app can't normally connect to its own iPhone's system services the way a computer can. LocalDevVPN routes a single address back into the phone, so AltLoad can reach them. None of your normal internet traffic goes through it.
Is AltLoad affiliated with AltStore?
No. AltLoad is an independent project and isn't affiliated with AltStore, Riley Testut, SideStore or Apple. It downloads AltStore from AltStore's official source when you install it. For AltLoad issues, use GitHub issues.
